This accumulate has a whimsical, upscale feel; jawbreakers and wax bottles, in delicate glass jars, line shelves set against walls painted a warm Tiffany blue. Topiaries made from gumballs accent the admission table, as do boxes of organic fair-trade chocolates.
“We are a nostalgic-inspired, retro-infused sweets shop with a contemporary feel,” said Diana Dimonda, 37, who along with her sister, Melissa Tripoli, 34, opened Dulce Bon-bons Boutique in August.
There are more than 85 types of penny candies at Dulce, including Laffy Taffy, lemon drops, sugar-able chocolates and French Burnt Peanuts. They are sold by bulk $2.99 a quarter pound or for a nickel apiece.
There are vegan and gluten-unbind treats, as well as a host of allergen-free sweets (made without nuts) and many hostile-to-find candies like Sky Bars (prices vary). There’s even a cotton-bon-bons machine ($2 a bag).
The sisters also design candy buffets for weddings and other parties and pull down care packages like the “exam stuff” stuffed with sugary fuel for students ($34.99, with about two dozen kinds of sweetmeats).
